Buttermilk Pecan Pie

This week’s Project Pastry Queen recipe comes from Mariana and it’s the Buttermilk Pecan Pie. I have to tell you that I was pretty stoked about this one. I love pecan pie! It’s definitely my favorite holiday dish so how perfect is it that Mariana’s choice fell on Easter? I waited until just yesterday to make the pie thinking I’d be able to share it for the holiday.
NO GO.
It’s just not a good pie. :( Well okay, it’s just not a good pie for someone who’s used to (and loves) the traditional pecan pie. I had to Google pictures of buttermilk pecan pies when I pulled it out of the oven because I was sure I’d done something wrong. But nope, that’s just what they look like.
Where typical pecan pies are gooey and super sweet, this one is crumbly and not very sweet at all. I ended up covering the piece I tried in sweetened whipped cream which made it 100 times better.

Kudos for attempting it. Being from the South, I definitely prefer the gooey sweet pecan pies.
Bummer it wasn’t good. I love pecan pie too and the gooeyness really makes it for me too!

I read the title and then saw the picture and then I had to read the title again. I’ve never heard of buttermilk pecan pie! I’ve only ever had the traditional delicious version.
I might try baking it if it were called something different so I wouldn’t have the anticipation of getting a traditional pecan pie as a result
Well the pie looks delicious :) my fav pecan recipe is David Lebovitz’s caramel pecan bars. OH MY!

Ha ha! Well, in a sad sort of way. I hate pie that isn’t sweet. I’ve never even heard of this. I am with you – I would have loaded it with cream.
I was SO excited for this week (I adore Pecan Pie). I gathered all the ingredients, but I checked a few other blogs at the last second and got scared. lol I’m all about gooey, sweet Pecan Pie.. and it just didn’t sound like something I (or the girls I was intending to make it for) would like. All the same, your picture is lovely! <3
