Fresh Ginger

So.
My site was down a lot this week. Like 3 days. It was bad. I had to move to a private server and then once I got there, I had a plugin crashing my site.
The plugin that caused the crash? My recipe plugin. Yeah, there were tears shed.
So if you notice pages without recipes, I’m working on them. I have to enter them one by one so it’ll take awhile. If you need a specific recipe, just leave me a comment or shoot me an email and I’ll get it right to you.
(Make sure you enter my cheese giveaway now that the blog seems to be working!!)

This week we finally got the snow we’ve been waiting on forever. And lucky for us, the husband was home for it (the upside of an upcoming deployment is 3-day weekends every week). I managed to get this epic shot of our 4 year old sneak-attacking the husband with a snowball:

(Which btw, he totally deserved because the previous night he called me outside to “see all the snow” and had a mountain of snowballs waiting when I stepped out the door.)

On the day I made the Beer & Brown Sugar Kielbasa, I also made this Jalapeno Popper Mac & Cheese - my kids loved it but I thought it was kind of boring. I find pepper jack cheese to be very bland though (outside of the jalapenos, of course) but I think with some tweaking – and maybe some sharp cheddar – I could get into it.
These Chicken Suiza Sandwiches were dinner one night. I was going to do a full post on them because husband loved them so much but the white chicken with white cheese on a white bun just wasn’t very photogenic. Like I said though, the husband thought they were the best thing ever and wants to try the chicken on top of nachos.
There was also a major cookie fail in my kitchen this week. I just need to come to terms with the fact that I will never make decent rugelach. I tried years ago (with a Dorie Greenspan recipe, so you know it was my fault, not a bad recipe) and it turned out awful – all the filling fell out! And guess what. Same thing happened this week! I don’t know if I’m putting too much filling in or what but me & rugelach are just not meant to be.
I had a killer headache the whole time my blog was down, like a seeing-spots-every-time-I-open-my-eyes kind of headache, so the husband was kind enough to cook. His masterpiece:

Steak (he cuts mine up for me! :P), potatoes, and baked beans. He also cooked a turkey we had hanging out in our freezer – it was supposed to be for Christmas but desperate times calls for desperate measures, right?

Christmas Tree Waffles from Rutherford Family Happenings - These are happening in my kitchen on Christmas Eve morning! I’m already excited!
Japanese Pork and Ramen Soup from Pass the Sushi - I’m a sucker for anything that starts with ramen noodles – and this is even more awesome since it’s made in the slow cooker!
Cream Cheese Chicken Chili from Look Who’s Cookin’ Now - This is the kind of thing my husband would love! I’ll definitely be making it next time we get freezing temps.
Peanut Butter M&M Bark from cookies and cups - SO SIMPLE! And you can’t go wrong with peanut butter and M&MS!

- I started (and finished) reading Matched this week after seeing a few recommendations on blogs. If anyone wants to volunteer to buy me the 2nd book of the series, I won’t say no. #justsayin
- My head still hurts.
- Baby boy is officially sleeping through the night. I had no idea babies could do such a thing this early!
- Did I mention my head still hurts?

Ok si you are the third person to recommend Matched. Love that sniw action pic! Epic! Thanks for the link love- that bark looks awesome!
Hi, I’m looking for the cookie dough cupcakes recipe. Can you repost that one? Thanks so much!
Okay, recipe is up: http://fakeginger.com/2010/10/28/cookie-dough-cupcakes/
:)
Love the snowball pic! Awesome. Glad your site is back up and good luck on the recipe situation. I hope it doesn’t take you too long. The steak pic totally made me laugh… when I have to sit with lil man to eat, I have hubs cut up my dinner so you’re not alone! :)
I am SO glad you’re back up, I missed your blog!! Hope the recipe situation isn’t as big a pain in the butt as expected. Love that snowball picture, too funny (and yes, totally deserved from the sounds of it!) :) And I am cracking up over the cut-up steak!
Thanks for the book recommendation, I’ll have to check it out!
I hope re-adding the recipies doesn’t take too long either, what an awful, agonizing thing to happen :( I totally thought there was something wrong with my internet when you’re site didn’t load!
None of the snow that’s fallen where I am has stuck but I’m sure that will change sooner or later! I find that when we have a late start to the snow, we always get ginourmous dumps in January and February instead. Sigh.
And hahaha to your hubby cutting up your meat!
Im so glad your site is back up and running! Yay! Also, love the shot of your hubby getting nailed with a snowball :) I’ve never hand trouble with rugalach but I’m thinking it might be too much filling. Or not enough jam. Or not rolling over the filling with a rolling pin? Anyway, love rugalach too :)
Sorry for all the trouble with your blog and the rugelach. The filling comes out of my rugelach too. I had a bad time with some cake balls. And the headache? I had one for two days that was awful. Must be the time of year for headaches. Your hubby is sweet to make you dinner. AND cut up your steak!
