French Fridays with Dorie – Cocoa Sables
March 23, 2012 in cookie

Yup, it’s time for my monthly “I’m going to cook every single recipe from Around My French Table!” proclamation. I mean it this time! I swear. Unless it’s another recipe for mussels. Because mussels don’t exist in Colorado.
This week’s French Fridays with Dorie recipe is not mussels thankfully – it was cookies! Chocolate ones! With extra chocolate!
These are Dorie’s Cocoa Sables. I really love her Sables recipe from Baking so I had high hopes for these. Unfortunately, my dough was ridiculously dry.

It crumbled when I sliced it and I ended up having to piece it back together on the baking sheet. I really don’t think it was the recipe’s fault though - I think just I need to learn to compensate for how dry the air is here.
But how did they taste you ask?
A-mazing. Best cookies I’ve ever tasted.
And that could very well be because I haven’t had anything sweet in a week but you guys, I loved these! I don’t think I’ve ever had a chocolate cookie that I felt this strongly about but I cannot wait to make these again.

Sigh. Maybe I need to get back into the club – I can’t resist a chocolate cookie! (Cute nails, by the way!)
These WERE good, huh? I loved that they were not too sweet and I liked the little chunks of chocolate scappterd throughout. Love your photos!
Yeah, I’m going to make every recipe too. Uh huh. lol. Dry or not these look like they turned out perfectly! Great photos!
I love these. I’m usually not a huge fan of chocolate but I’ve been on a thing lately when I need just a little at night. This sounds fab!
All these pictures of cookies and glasses of milk make me want to rush home and attack my stash. I just baked mine this morning and although I grabbed one before leaving, I couldn’t really savor it. (Or it sure feels like it)
These cookies look amazing! This is a fantastic recipe and I am going to have to try it out!
My dough was dry and crumbly too, but they sure tasted good!
Glass of milk – mandatory :-)
Looks good
I agree with you, these tasted great! But I need to dip them in a glass of milk and have a great manicure like yours, before I can fully appreciate how AWESOME these sables are :)
Your cookies look so cute in that little bowl. Even though I feel like I have a lot of dishware, clearly I need to be buying more so I can stage little pics like that! Also, your nails are great! Great! I can never make a manicure last so I am always jealous of people with pretty nails.
I’ll take vanilla over chocolate most days but these look yummy!
Mmmm, chocolate cookies with extra chocolate, I’m in. And I love your nails!
I like how the bigger pieces of chocolate look in your cookies. These are super yummy!
These look crisp but very chocolately! I will definitely try them. Great photos!
Ooo, these look great! They’re so round and chocolatey and perfect :D My boyfriend and brother would especially the double chocolate factor. And one of these days I’m going to be very excited to slice cookie dough because I’ve only ever rolled dough balls or used the drop method, haven’t tried the log method yet! Even though your dough ended up crumbly, they look awesome post-bake. YUM!
And I, too, love your nails!
The blue fingernail/brown cookie/white milk shot is a classic!
I love the shot of your dunking the cookie with your nails painted. ha!
