Butter Buddies
September 10, 2012 in snack

I am the worst blogger in the history of blogging. I’m aware of it.
I am just… ugh. So busy! I swear I spent all of last week going from store to store to store to post office sending my husband’s last package only to have him get online THAT night to tell me he needed one more thing. So store to store to store to post office again. Between that and our regular day to day stuff, things have been cah-razy around here. I swore that I was going to spend the weekend getting some posts together but I’m sure you guys could guess that I spent the weekend watching an America’s Next Top Model marathon and taking naps on the couch.
Today was the big due date for Secret Recipe Club so I had to at least get this done! (I switched SRC groups again in case you were wondering. I have commitment issues.) This month I was assigned to Smells Like Brownies which was super exciting because she has a ton of fun recipes on her blog.
I actually made these Trail Mix Cookies first but y’all, I don’t know if it’s me or my oven or what but the past few times I’ve made cookies they have just spread like crazy. Even after I refrigerate the dough for 24 hours! So yeah, they were delicious but just not photogenic. Luckily I had bookmarked her Butter Buddies as something I wanted to make for the upcoming holiays.
These are like muddy buddies but instead of chocolate, you use butterscotch chips. I have never been a huge fan of the regular muddy buddies but I knew I would love this. And I did! I only made half the recipe because I wasn’t sure if the kids would eat it and lord knows the last thing I need is to eat an entire box of powdered sugar-coated cereal. So anyway, the kids gobbled it up and then asked me to make it again the next day! It was definitely a hit and I’ll be making it again for Christmas!

Ingredients
Instructions
- Pour cereal into a large bowl; set aside.
- Put butterscotch chips, peanut butter, and butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 1 minute, then stir until smooth. If it's still really lumpy, microwave for another 30 seconds and stir again. Once the mixture is completely smooth, stir in the vanilla.
- Pour the butterscotch mixture over the Chex. Stir gently until all the Chex is coated.
- Put the powdered sugar in a very large zip top bag. Scoop the candy-coated Chex into the bag and zip it shut. Shake until all the cereal is coated in powdered sugar.

Um, whoa. I never would have thought to use anything but chocolate chips for ‘buddies’, but you just opened my eyes. I’ve been shortsighted, like whoa. Butterscotch sounds great, and I’m also thinking a combo of butterscotch and cinnamon chips would rock my world.
Oh. My. Goodness. Muddy Buddies made with butterscotch? That is pure genius! I’m definitely making these soon, and it won’t be a half batch! ;) (fellow SRCer from Group A)
You seriously crack me up, I love your posts and your instagram pics. Don’t feel bad, I spent the whole weekend on the couch too :) I’ve never had muddy buddies, I feel like I’m missing out! Now I need to try those and these too…
Butter is my friend. We are tight. So these butterscotch buddies and I are meant to be together.
No need to apologize for being busy! We have all been there. Just keep these kinds of treats coming! I love these!
Oh Lordy. My sweetie is a butterscotch fiend so I know these will be right up his alley!! And yeah, I’ve been there too, with the “oh and I need ONE more thing” conversation, and it never fails its always after mailing the dang care package! Lol!
Doing the happy dance because these are going to be so good and so perfect for today because it’s raining outside. Thanks for finding this great recipe and sharing it with SRC.
Mmm, looks good! Love the idea of switching up muddy buddies. ;)
don’t worry about it, girl! we’re still here :) i like the idea of this instead of the regular muddy buddies..good change!
I haven’t had muddy buddies since I was a kid. I will definitely try these and maybe make some with white chocolate chips too.
I just pinned your awesome recipe! Thanks for sharing and have a great day.

YUM. Those look outstandingly delicious, like such a wonderful, decadent treat. Great choice!
Perfect–exactly the recipe I needed to figure out what to do with the two extra boxes of Chex in my pantry.
I’ve been trying to figure out what snacks I need and this just shot to the top of my list. Trying this asap.
Muddy buddies (chocolate) and a blend of these butter buddies would be fabulous together! Thanks for sharing this recipe. :)
[...] Butter Buddies – The name can be misleading, but these tiny treats are the perfect amount of sweet you’ll need to balance out the salty and spicy food you’ll be eating all day. Grab a handful and get ready for peanut buttery heaven. [...]
I got to “instead of chocolate use butterscotch chips…” and squealed so loudly that my kids came running! GENIUS! Now I need cereal…. Welcome to Group B!
You put puppy chow in front of me and I’ll go to town. I like the swap using butterscotch chips, I’d probably still add some chocolate to it too ;)
I will be making these!
