BOO BLVD

Halloween is probably my most favorite holiday for decorations. I love the bright colors, I love the skulls, and y’all know I loooove the pumpkins! This year, though, I had some real problems.
When my husband deployed and his buddies deployed, we turned one of our closets into somewhat of a storage unit for our single soldier friends who were getting kicked out of their barracks. And my Halloween decorations are buried under all that stuff! Ahhh! I really considered not decorating this year but in the end I couldn’t do it. I just love it too much.
So I started over completely and I tried not to spend too much money. I DIY’d a few things, hit up the dollar store, and filled in the rest at inexpensive “big box” stores.
One of my kids favorite decorations that I have up is that orange plastic bucket filled with plastic spider rings. It’s doing double duty – the spiders will go in our trick-or-treat goodies on Halloween night! Both the bucket and the spiders came from the dollar store so it was really inexpensive and still a great way to bring bright colors to my kitchen.
I also love using candy corn because nothing says HALLOWEEN quite like a big tub of candy corn. I used a really cute glass pumpkin jar which was less than $6 at Target. I also picked up the black and orange garland at Target for a couple bucks. I usually do lights on the rails for the stairs that lead to our house but like I said, those are buried in the closet. This garland will do the trick this year! It’s cute and sparkly which is pretty much all I ask for in a Halloween decoration.

The kids and I DIY’d these ghost lights. They were so simple and I’m willing to bet you already have most of the supplies! We took regular ol’ mason jars and put 2 coats of white acrylic paint. Once that was dry we used black acrylic paint to make ghost faces. I used some of those fake tealights to put in them and they’re actually really cool because they flicker just like a real candle but I won’t have to worry about trick-or-treaters knocking them over.
The whole project only cost me a few dollars because I already had the jars and the tealights!

My mom sent me this idea and I just had to do it! Admittedly, it didn’t turn out as cute as I’d hoped but the imperfections are what make it uniquely ours.
For this one I used a black canvas (you should be able to find it at any craft store) and the same white paint I used for the ghost lights. The just painted the kids feet (one at a time) and had them make a footprint. As you can see, they were really squirmy and apparently have more than 5 toes each! Once the footprints were dry I used a sharpie to do the ghost faces (you could use paint) and a white paint pen to to write on it. I attached a cute black ribbon to hang it and voila, it was done. It took no time and all and my kids are in love with it!

I even use the dog as decoration! bahaha!
Just remember: your decorations don’t have to cost a ton, they don’t have to be complicated, and they don’t have to be perfect. Just do what you love whether that’s sparkles and glitter and pink pumpkins or scary ghouls and goblins. Just go for it!

I have about 5,000,000,000 black rocks from my wedding centerpieces, and I like to use them in a vase with white votives. It’s a chicer look for Halloween.
I try to re-purpose some of the things I already have for Halloween Decorations. This year I took a very small trunk that I have put creepy hands coming out of it.
This is the first year I’m really decorating (since I now have the space to actually do so!) so I don’t really have any tips to share. But I just signed up for Pinterest this weekend so I now have lots and lots of decorating ideas planned :)
umm let my super crafty mom and sis do my decorating–that’s my failproof tip :)
I typically just put fake cobwebs up all over. Not terribly unique, but effective enough!
I’m with the kids, those lights are adorable!
Seriously dying over this giveaway. If I don’t win my kids will cry. :) My best tip right now is to hang up all of this artwork that is coming home from Kindergarten. There is SO much of it but he loves that I’m placing it all over the house!
I really love jack-o-lanterns, other than that I don’t do much decorating; but I love enjoying others decorations of scarecrows and spiderwebs
A decorating tip? Um, Well once i got Marc to un-jenga the garage, I pulled out my same glass pumpkin and put candy corn in it! lol! PS: love the boys ghosts made with their piggies! Adorable.
Like Michelle, I don’t do much Halloween decorating; candy treats in a bowl for my kids to pass on Halloween night is my only decor.
This candy giveaway goes well with my Halloween treat bags giveaway. Coincidental? ;-)
ps – I do love Hershey’s candies!
Last year we decorated pumpkins with glitter, hat, mask etc. instead of carving.
I have a skeleton that I hang from our front tree with a torn voile dress that looks like it has been rotting a while
I am so decorating challenged! I love all your ideas – I usually just do the fake cobwebs, and a few nicknaks that I have accumulated over the years. Lacks serious cuteness.
I usually don’t decorate too much, I like to decorate the outside more because that is what people will see. I usually hang some sort of wreath on the door and then we have jackolanterns outside.
I love these decorations! I put up light up pumpkins in our place and decorate outside with pumpkins, mums, and wreaths. I think floral decorations are great since they last longer than just for halloween
I tried something different this year and painted pumpkins to match the colors of each room in the house so that I could have a touch of halloween EVERYWHERE!
We are simple, especially because we have young kids; lots of construction paper, cut out bats, pumpkins and grave headstones. Then color (or scribble) accordingly, tape to the wall in any crazy order….. :)
I put up all the artwork my kids do at school – conveniently done for each holiday!!
Putting cobwebs on tables not in the kitchen. Spooky and cheap!
I fitted out a fall wreath for under $10 bucks and 15 min.! In Target’s $ section, they had a plain grapevine wreath, bags of autumn leaves, and a spray of orange berries. I popped everything artfully in the wreath and hung it up.
We don’t like to spend too much to decorate, but I draw a Bat outline on cardstock and cut it out many many times and tape them in a flock on our garage door. We also throw some lights on the bushes. Maybe once we have kids I’ll be more into decorating. I stick with the simple and easy to take down decorations for now.
My best tip. Carve out the top of mini pumpkins, big enough for one of the tealights. Place one in there. Using black pipe cleaners, make 8 legs. Looks really cute when there are 3-4 in a group.
We usually have homemade crafts from school and some pumpkin candles. Not a big Halloween decorator, but Christmas is another story :). Thanks for the fun giveaway!
I now have 2 small grandchildren who really don’t understand what a holiday is let alone Halloween. So when they come over, I give them cupcake papers, glue and scraps of paper to decorate with crayons. I hang them up with string from my kitchen ceiling and tell them that they are Grannies Goblin Goodies….keeps them laughing and me less stressed. Thanks for ll the great ideas and recipies. With cold weather here in NY, I plan on doing more baking with the help of the little ones.
Spider webs- ghouls, zombies and ghosts. Love the ghost lights.

My biggest decorating splurge for Halloween is for the Pumpkin Masters pumpkin stencils. My husband, myself, and my friends and family choose which spooky stencil we each want to use and then go find pumpkins that will be a good match for it. A few days before Halloween we have a pumpkin carving party complete with cider and roasted pumpkin seeds (from the pumpkins we just cleaned of course). Before using any stencil however, I make a copy and keep the original so that I can reuse them in the future. It does take some time but having friends and family over makes everything, including cleanup, easier. And without fail, every year we get so many compliments on the pumpkins we carve. People even stop and take pictures!
Love your site.
Halloween/fall decorating tip: Pumpkins, pumpkins and more pumpkins with some candy corn thrown in for good measure. Then use the pumpkins for toaated pumpkin seeds and pumpkin pie! YUM!
Thanks!
For holiday decorating my best tip is to incorporate lights. Colored lights always add instant maximum impact that reduce the amount of decorations you need to buy and you can focus on fewer more special pieces.
I also did the ghost picture! :) Another favorite decoration is an orange canvas with the kids handprints as spiders. I painted their hand black (minus the thumb) and overlap the palms. It is my favorite decoration right now! :)
I like to decorate with a black light, spider webs & hanging jumping spiders (love those!).
