If you haven’t already bought yourself a copy of Around My French Table, run out and get it right now so you can make this recipe!
This pound cake is our French Fridays with Dorie recipe this week and it has got to be the best pound cake in the world. In Around My French Table, Dorie mentions that it’s drier than the pound cake we’re used to in the US but I thought it was perfect. I happened to catch some strawberries on sale the day I made the cake and it made the best strawberry shortcake.
My favorite part of the cake is the brown sugar that is sprinkled on top before baking. I hated how it made the cake look on the top – it was just little dots of brown – but it added so much to the pound cake!
The recipe is definitely going to be my go-to when it comes to pound cakes from now on, but I’m definitely doubling the recipe next time around!
Mmm this sounds so yummy!
I’ve read great things about this cake today :) hope I can make it soon!
Okay so I am SO not a very good foodie. I was expecting some sort of meat when I opened this up. Bahahahaha! Looks lovely!
I agree, from Dorie’s description I was actually expecting this cake to be drier than it was. To be honest, I wasn’t all that excited about making it, thinking that it would be a little boring. But my cake wasn’t dry at all, it was delicious! And I bet it would make an amazing strawberry shortcake.
My favourite part was the brown sugar on top too :) I loved this – my first pound cake ever!!
Where is the recipe? I’m lost :(
We’re baking through the entire book, Around My French Table by Dorie Greenspan, so we don’t post recipes. We want to encourage everyone to buy a copy of their own. :)
I’m glad this one was a hit for you – and for most Doristas! Looks like I picked the wrong week to sit out.
It did make the best strawberry shortcake. How pretty yours is!
Your cake is so pretty with the strawberries on top! I went to the Saints game and I have to say it was the most exciting game I’ve ever attended, so close right until the end!
The brown sugar made the cake! Yours looks scrumptious, especially with the strawberries!
what a yummy looking picture, the cake looks so simple and elegant.
Great idea to double the recipe! And I froze some strawberries from this past summer….a good match, no?
I agree 100% with everything in your post…exactly what we said as we ate this cake. My girls told me this is a new “keeper” and to forget about our pound cake; this is better.
I loved the brown sugar on top too – it made the cake! Yours look like summer with those strawberries on top.
I love that you served it with Strawberries! I thought this cake would be a perfect substitute for shortcake since it’s so light, delicious & easy to make.
Have a great weekend!
I wish I would’ve doubled it this time around! It goes fast! Nice blog!
it does look like the perfect pound cake, so simple but delicious
We served ours with strawberries too! I thought they make a nice combination and the sauce from the macerated berries soaked into the cake nicely.
Nice pictures!
My husband said it looked like cornbread too. We both enjoyed it, and it
definitely will be a go to cake recipe. Your photo looks great with those
strawberries on top. Simple and elegant.
I loved the brown sugar on top also, though I thought my cake looked like it had age spots when I put it in the oven and took it out. The strawberries look terrific with this!
Your cake looks so pretty with the strawberries on top. I loved this one – definitely a keeper.
Your favorite recipe so far? NICE! Isn’t that great when something just bowls you over? Looks great. I think if I make this again, I need to add more brown sugar. My tablespoon only made a very light sprinkling.
I was preparing myself for a drier cake as well, but it was perfect and the brown sugar takes it over the top :) Yum!
Your cake looks gorgeous with the strawberries. Makes me long for spring. I’m happy to know this will make a good base for strawberry shortcake.
What a great idea to turn this into strawberry shortcake! Your pictures are making me hungry :-)
The strawberries look delicious with the cake! I loved the brown sugar also, but it definitely was not the prettiest top! : )
Yummy!! Strawberry Shortcake is my favorite summer treat, this looks wonderful. I love the idea of a homemade pound cake.
Glad this turned out so well for you! It looks beautiful!
Amanda, Your being such a great FFWD member and blogger caused and inspired me to include your link in my Post today about Dorie and her online cooking groups. I have so enjoyed reading your Blog and included it in my Link List at the end of my Post. Looking forward to more in the year ahead. Mary

I loved the brown sugar on top too!
Your cake looks wonderful! What a great idea to use it as a strawberry shortcake base, yum! I didn’t think this was dry at all either and the little extra sweetness from the brown sugar was great.
