You guys. We’re headed to New Orleans today – the boys are going to their first ever New Orleans Mardi Gras and we are SO EXCITED.
We meant to go last year but uhhh… you know, the assault happened and my protective order hearing was the day after Mardi Gras. So yeah, obviously had to cancel. But we’re going this year!
We’re from Mobile originally (the home of Mardi Gras in the US) so the boys have been to Mardi Gras but the celebrations in the 2 cities are so different and I feel like they really need to experience both. And we’re staying with family that we haven’t seen since last summer so it’ll be a good time.

In honor Mardi Gras, I made these Hurricane Pops!
I know. Popsicles in February? What am I thinking?!
I’m thinking it’s really hot in Texas already. You guys, I never once put the back windows on the Jeep this winter. It never stayed cold for longer than a day or 2. Crazy.
Anyway! The hurricane is a cocktail that is typically made with a ton of rum and then some juice. I made these with passion fruit juice, fresh orange juice, pineapple juice, and a splash of grenadine. Plus, the rum. Duh. And then I popped a maraschino cherry or 2 into each popsicle mold to add that bright red on the bottom. They turned out so pretty and so delicious. A bit strong but that’s fine, right?
The day I photographed these, my newest neighbors were sitting out on their porch so I yelled “Do you guys like rum?” and now I have new friends.
- Combine all ingredients in a pitcher and stir. Drop a cherry into each popsicle mold. Pour the drink mixture into popsicle molds, add popsicle sticks. Freeze overnight before serving.
