Crockpot Candy is a must make for the holiday season! It’s like chocolate covered peanuts but better! Only 4 ingredients and made completely in the slow cooker. It makes a ton so it is perfect for cookie tins or holiday parties!
These are a must make for me for my holiday cookie tins! Some of my other must makes for the holidays are Cranberry Orange Cookies, White Chocolate Peanut Butter Ritz Crackers, and Italian Sugar Cookies.
This is my ultimate, most favorite recipe ever.
If I had to pick a signature recipe, this would be it.
And it’s not even mine.
My best friend Megan and her mom gave me this recipe years and years ago.
They make it every Christmas and every Christmas I would beg her to bring me some. I honestly had no idea it was so easy until she showed up at my house with all the ingredients on year and threw it all in the slow cooker.
Now I make at least 2 batches every holiday season to fill Christmas cookie tins and send as teacher gifts. It is so delicious, practically addictive, everyone loves it, and everyone you gift it to will be asking for the recipe!
Ingredients For Crockpot Candy
- White Almond Bark – this is a white melting chocolate that’s typically used for making almond bark. You can find it in the baking aisle of all large grocery stores, with the chocolate chips.
- German Chocolate Bar – this is a sweet baking chocolate that you can find in the baking aisle with the chocolate chips.
- Semisweet Chocolate Chips
- Dry Roasted Peanuts
How To Make Crockpot Candy
- Add white almond bark, German chocolate bar, semisweet chocolate chips, and peanuts to slow cooker
- Let cook on low for 1 hour without messing with it
- After an hour, stir to combine everything
- Allow to cook for another hour, stirring every 15 minutes
- Drop spoonfuls of the candy onto wax paper and allow to cool completely
What Size Crockpot Do I Need for Crockpot Candy?
I use a 6 quart slow cooker for this recipe. I don’t recommend using anything much smaller than that but an 8 quart will work fine.
How Long Is It Good For?
Crockpot Candy is good for several weeks in the fridge. Make sure to store Crockpot Candy in an airtight container to keep it good for as long as possible.
I like mine room temperature so I recommend letting it sit on the counter for 10 – 15 minutes before serving. You can also serve it right from the fridge if you prefer!
What Is Almond Bark?
Okay, so it’s technically it’s not even called almond bark! It’s a candy coating (either vanilla or chocolate) but the packages usually have “Make Your Own ALMOND BARK!” on the front so everyone just calls it almond bark.
There are no almonds or nuts of any kind. It is a chocolaty candy coating that melts really easily and produces a glossy, beautiful candy. It also sets up really quickly so you don’t have candy sitting on your counter for hours and hours.
Almond bark available in most of the grocery stores near me (plus Walmart and Super Target) year round in the baking aisle right near the chocolate chips. During the holiday season, most stores will have huge baking displays where you can find almond bark as well. Or you can always order almond bark online.
If, for some reason, you can’t find it, the candy melts you find in the craft store work similarly.
What is a German Chocolate Bar?
You know that rich delicious German chocolate cake taste that you know and love? It gets it’s signature taste from German chocolate! It’s a dark baking chocolate that is slightly sweeter than semisweet chocolate.
And fun fact! It didn’t get it’s name from Germany! It was developed by a man named Sam German in the 1850’s and that’s how it came to be known as German chocolate.
It is made by Baker’s and will be right next to all the other Baker’s baking chocolate in the baking aisle of pretty much any grocery store. If you can’t find it, you can use semisweet and won’t be able to tell much of a different at all. Or you can always order a German chocolate bar online.
Help! My Crockpot Candy Isn’t Setting Up!
I have never had this problem but I have had readers say their Crockpot Candy takes forever to set up.
The amount of almond bark used in the recipe should make it set up pretty quickly, especially if your house isn’t super hot, but if you are having problems, transfer them to your refrigerator for a few minutes and they should set up very fast.
Can You Freeze Crockpot Candy?
Yes! If you are looking to get a jump start on your holiday baking, you can freeze it in an airtight freezer ziploc bag, making sure to remove as much of the air as possible.
Just let it thaw in the refrigerator or on the counter before serving.

We love Dark Chocolate. Can you use Dark Choolate instead of German Chocolate?
Amber says
can I use fondue chocolate, and call it a day?
Penny says
can you add raisins?
Sylvia says
Raisins and peanuts or just raisins sound awesome!
Reminds me of Nestle’s Chunky bar or Raisinets!
Brenda says
was easy to make.we cut amount I half.
Chrissy says
Just made a double batch in slow cooker on low. I think I got about 400 candies! I used pecan pieces and also salted roasted peanuts. I did not break apart anything when I put in the pot. At first, not all the nuts fit, but after the 1st hour, I dump the remaining in. Yes, my guy and I taste-tested, lol. Very delicious!
amanda says
Awesome! I’m so glad you guys enjoyed them! I’m wishing I had some right now! :)
Angie says
Do you know if u can use the crock pot liners so ur pot don’t get nasty?? Thanks
amanda says
I’ve never done it so I can’t be certain. I’ve never had trouble cleaning the crockpot afterwards though. Just fill it up with hot water and it comes right out. :)
Nikki says
This looks like the chocolate turtles sold in stores. How is this different?
amanda says
These don’t have caramels and they’re made with peanuts instead of pecans. Plus, they’re homemade if you’re looking to do homemade gifts or little cookie tins. :)
Vanessa says
To cool these, is it best to leave out or is it ok to refrigerate?
amanda says
I leave them on the counter. I’m sure they’re fine in the fridge once they cool completely, though.
BEV says
I made these last year and left them out all night in a cool room. They were perfect for packing in my containers. They set early well and is a great hit. Making them again
Beverly says
glad to see so many people have made these. when I first read the recipe it sounded good and easy. was concerned the moisture from the crockpot would cause the almond bark to seize up
Karen says
do you use salted or unsalted peanuts? I always use unsalted when I make this recipe but wonder if salted would taste better?
amanda says
I’ve always used salted but I really dig the sweet/salty combo. :)
Bebe says
My recipe calls for one 16 oz jar of dry roasted salted & one 16 oz jar of unsalted
Lianne says
I’m from Canada and the conversion chart says 2lbs (almond bark) is almost 4 cups and 24oz is 3 cups. Does that look/sound about right to you? Thanks
amanda says
Hmm, I’m really not sure. They come in huge blocks here so it’s hard to say what it would be in cups.
Dottie says
Careful on conversions for ounces. There are 8 LIQUID ounces in one liquid cup (or 16 tablespoons) when it is sold by volume, but there are 16 SOLID ounces in one pound when something is sold by weight in a dry package, like chocolate.
TIm says
Salted or unsalted dry roast peanuts?
TIm says
Never mind, just saw the answer.
Armida Rivera says
Can caramel be added to these candies so they taste like turtle candy
amanda says
I have not tried it so I can’t be sure. Maybe add it after the initial melting?
cherie says
Can you add caramel? Macadamia nuts?
amanda says
You can definitely use macadamia nuts in place of some or all of the peanuts. I bet that would be delicious. I’ve never tried adding caramel though.
Linda says
I have made this recipe many times and my family loves it.
Wanted to make something different so I put a ROLO down first
and dropped the chocolate and nuts on top it was great. Gave you that
caramel center.
Amelie breaux says
Do you use salted or unsalted dry roasted peanuts?
amanda says
I use salted. :)
Liza says
could you add peanut butter?
amanda says
Yes, I’ve added peanut butter before but I just added a couple spoonfuls so I don’t have exact measurements.
Lisa Casserly says
You could also try substituting the white almond bark for chocolate almond bark, then changing the chocolate chips for the peanut butter chips… just an idea. I love the “variations on a theme” method of making things!
Roxianne says
Can you do a double back at one time or should you only do one batch at a time?
amanda says
I’ve never done a double recipe so I can’t be sure. Sorry I can’t be of more help!
Lisa Casserly says
Yes, you could do a double batch, as long as your crock pot/slow cooker was big enough to hold the ingredients. The chocolate/almond bark mixture doesn’t set up fast as long as the crock pot is warm. (and even if it did, you could just re-heat to re-melt the chocolate, and continue on.) The stoneware liner stays warm for a long time, so you have time to work the candy. I would, however, advise you to NEVER make a double batch of divinity, because that is NOT forgiving with the working time. (Did that once, too. What a sticky disaster!!) Once divinity is ready to go, its ready to go. And, peanut brittle can be tricky, too; though a double batch is quite possible. But this recipe would be super easy to double or even triple. Its a great beginner candy!!
Debbie says
Has anyone ever added pretzels along with the nuts?
Tiffany says
That sounds amazing!!
Dottie Price says
Yes, you may use pretzels in the recipe. I have also added both kinds of raisens, brown and yellow. Another addition that taste great, is the dried cranberries. Here in the states, we can buy bags of dried fruit, that has all kinds of fruit in one bag….There are so many different things. Try them all, you will be surprised, and i bet that you don’t have to throw anything away (Y)
Tonia says
This looks so delicious but I’m allergic to peanuts is there a substitution for those of us who can’t eat peanuts?
Gary says
You can use pecans, cashews or raisins….all are good.
Misty says
Wondering if it would work okay using a crockpot liner for easy clean up or if the liner would just get in the way? Any experience with this? I love my crockpot liners!
Lisa Casserly says
it should work fine… the coating and chocolate melts at super low temps. And, after saying that, I’d tell you that its really EASY to clean up… because it melts so easily, just hot water from the tap will loosen it up. You’d have to burn that stuff for HOURS before it would be hard to clean. lol. And I’m only saying that because I forgot some chocolate in a melting pot and burnt it on once. And in that case, your plastic liners would be an unholy mess to scrape off, too.
Regina Kellam says
I’ve wanted to make this since I first pinned it. I didn’t have the almond bark but refused to wait any longer. Sooo I substituted white “vanilla candy coating”. turned out just great. Family loved them. Can’t wait ’til I get all the specific ingredients in the house at the same time! :)
amanda says
Yay, so glad they turned out well! And now I can feel more confident when I tell people to try the vanilla candy coating. Thanks so much for coming back to let me know! :)
Lisa Casserly says
vanilla candy coating IS DEFINITELY the same as almond bark. Some companies label it one way, some the other way. But its all the same. You can get better quality candy coating (also sometimes called summer coating) by mail ordering. Nestle makes some that is really wonderful, has more chocolate in it than the store bought stuff. Candy coating/summer coating/almond bark is way easier to handle, much more forgiving than dealing with real chocolate. The flavor is the same, (It pretty much is the same as real chocolate) but it does have a less-pleasing “mouth feel” than real chocolate.
