This week’s French Fridays with Dorie recipe took me waaaaay beyond my comfort zone. I’m not much of a seafood fan to begin with but something like scallops? I have never even had the desire to cook them. It didn’t help that the only scallops I could find were these massive guys the size of my fist! No joke.
The recipe was very simple (which I’m realizing is is a trend in Around My French Table). The scallops cooked through in about 5 minutes and the sauce came together in about the same time. I will admit to having to make the caramel twice because I have zero patience but as long as you pay attention to your sugar, there shouldn’t be any problems.
The sauce is fantastic! Who knew caramel and orange made such an interesting pair. I did not like the scallops at all but I can see using the sauce on other things, like maybe some shrimp or a not-so-fishy fish.
If you’re interested in the recipe, make sure you check out Around My French Table and don’t forget to visit the French Fridays with Dorie blog to see how everyone else did this week!
I recently got this book in the mail. I haven’t tried any of the recipes as yet. I loved her Baking book a lot. This looks yummy, something the partner and I will enjoy. Your photos are lovely too. So clear and crisp.
Congrats on making the sauce twice! That’s commitment! Great post!
I love, love scallops!!! Those look sooooo delicious. I like the large ones best. I’ll have to go to her site and get that recipe. I think I’ll love it. It would be great with shrimp, too.
As always, your picture is great. They always make me soooo hungry!
That is a beautiful picture–looks like it turned out perfectly!
Beautiful job! I love your picture. This was a great recipe; I enjoyed making it.
The picture was lovely. This sauce was really good with chicken – so if you aren’t a fan of the scallops, there are other good uses! (I am sure fish would be excellent too)
Your scallops look fantastic! I almost had to make the caramel twice myself.
If those scallops are as big as your fist, that must be a really big plate! Your scallops look delicious. I loved the scallops, but not the sauce. This recipe offered a lot of elegance for not much effort.
Wonderful! I like it that you are allowing yourself to be pushed out of your comfort zone and look at the results, beautiful;-)
Agreed about the trickiest part being to watch that sugar :) Of course if I didn’t insist on using my Cuisinart attachment it really would have been a breeze. I am wondering how long my hubby will continue to clean up after me in the kitchen. I guess as long as the recipes keep turning out this delish !!
I guess sometimes we just gotta step out of our comfort zones to discover new and wonderful new things! I would never thought of serving Orange caramel sauce with something savoury. It sounds more fitting for desssert, but after reading what you wrote about applying it to other seafood, i guess it must have worked!
The sear on your scallops looks great!
I’ll take your share of scallops! One of my favorites!
I love scallops & have always wanted to cook them. I remember seeing your tweet about this. I could have come over & ate them for you. ;) I don’t cook this kind of thing because my husband won’t eat it.
