This is my mom’s recipe, something she’s made every Christmas for as long as I can remember. It’s probably the thing I most look forward to during the holidays. I’ve (obviously) already made one batch and will probably make at least one more this season. It’s that good. Just be careful, it’s pretty addictive. We went through the entire batch in 24 hours! Eep!

SheeShee’s Christmas Mix
Ingredients
- 3 cup Cocoa Puffs
- 3 cup rice cereal squares or any of the square cereals
- 1 1/2 cp small twisted pretzels
- 1 cup dry roasted peanuts
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/4 cup light corn syrup
- 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Instructions
-
Combine cereals, pretzels and nuts in 9×13 baking pan (metal works better).
-
In medium sauce pan, cook brown sugar, butter and light corn syrup over medium
-
heat until it comes to a boil. Let the mixture boil without stirring for 4
-
minutes. Remove from heat. Stir in cream of tartar, baking soda and
-
vanilla. Pour over cereal mix in 9×13 and stir gently to coat. Bake in 300
-
degree oven for 30 minutes, stirring after 15. Spread on foil to cool. Keep
-
in covered container. Makes a great gift in little cellophane bags!

I always have wanted to make my own Chex Mix. I think it would be great a kid friendly appetizer for the holidays. Thanks for the recipe as always!

Oooooooh. I guess I’m going to have to start mine! I usually make a couple of batches during the month, and then I make a batch for Christmas Day, a batch to take to my in-law’s house, and then usually a batch or two to keep around the house while the kids are out of school for the holidays (in previous years, obviously, since I’m homeschooling now). Amanda, I think it’s my favorite Christmas goody, and it would NOT be Christmas without it. I’m so glad my sister found the recipe when you were just a toddler!

I also wanted to tell anyone who wants to make it: make sure NOT to leave it in any longer than it says because it will get waaaay to crunchy, and the GOODNESS that usually sticks all over it just fall off into little crumbs in the bottom of the container (or Ziploc bag). ~sigh~

Oh my…so happy to see this recipe here. Now I don’t have hunt for the recipe. If I was smart, I’d write it in “MY Recipe Book”, which is where I write all recipe’s that PawPaw and I love and I make over and over again. Think I’ll do that right now. MawMaw

That looks so good! I’m so sick and tired of all the holiday cookies and cakes and this seems so perfect and different. My husband asked me to make treats to take into work and I’m going to make a few batches of this to send!

Hi,
I stumbled upon your website last month and decided to keep this recipe in mind for Christmas. Well, I have now made it four times. Each time I have doubled the recipe and it is still gone so fast. The only change I made was to use Reese’s Puffs cereal instead of Cocoa Puffs and substitute Bugles for some of the Chex cereal to give it a little more salty sweet flavor. This stuff is addicting!! Tell SheShe “awesome recipe”!!
