The Greenest Smoothie

Well guys.

I did that annoying thing I do a couple times a year even though I know it’s a bad idea.

Yep, I got bangs.

Whyyyy do I do this to myself?

It wasn’t even an impulsive decision. I spent HOURS on Pinterest convincing myself that bangs were a good idea. And then when I told my guy (who I love and don’t blame at all), he got excited and was all, “Like Heidi Klum bangs?!”

Yes! Make me look like Heidi Klum!

Guess what. I don’t look like Heidi Klum.

So I’ll be pushing my bangs to the side for the next 6 months. You know, until I decide to do it all over again. Because I’m an idiot.

Anyway. We got a ton of snow yesterday. The snow I’ve been waiting for! The boys and I sled until we couldn’t feel our hands and then we drank hot chocolate until we were warm enough to go back out.

It was awesome.

We also made smoothies because I’m trying to be healthier, you know. I used to drink a green smoothie every day of my life but when I started counting macros, I decided I’d rather use my carbs on Pop-Tarts.

Priorities.

But now, I’m back into smoothies. And this one is the current fave. It’s spinach, pineapple, and banana! And the thing that makes it extra delicious: matcha powder!

Matcha powder is green tea powder – it’s what those delicious green tea lattes and frappuccinos at Starbucks are made from. It’s delicious and perfect for green smoothies.

I’m sure I’ve shared this with you before but I have this weird, irrational fear of cow’s milk. It’s right below my #1 irrational fear of accidentally saying “I love you” on the phone to someone I hardly know. But anyway, I’m strictly an almond milk girl and so far this summer my favorite thing to make are smoothies with almond milk.

I was in Safeway the other day picking my usual Silk Almond Coconut Blend (I use it in my coffee every day and in smoothies and such) and noticed that Silk also has Almond Milk Protein + Fiber which I’d never tried.

You guys know that I’ve been trying to act like I know something about nutrition and fitness so I am all about anything with more protein and fiber! The Silk Almond with Protein + Fiber has 5 grams of protein and 5 grams of fiber which is pretty impressive for almond milk!

For this post, though, we’re talking smoothies! I used the Almond Coconut Blend in Unsweetened Vanilla and since the coconut already makes it feel sort of tropical, I went with a tropical theme. Y’all know I’ve been buying $7.99/pound sliced mango (I know, it’s ridiculous – you don’t have to tell me) like it’s going out of style so I had to use some of that plus fresh pineapple and orange! And some coconut water because I can’t get enough coconut! Plus, coconut water is super hydrating and since it’s SO HOT lately, a little extra hydration is always a good thing!

These are really delicious. I usually find smoothies too heavy to be refreshing but this one really worked for me. And my kids all loved it! So definitely a winner!

Have you tried the #SilkAlmondBlends? Or… do you have any weird irrational fears or make me feel better about mine?

Happy almost Friday!

First up, I have to apologize for my blog being down most of yesterday and the day before. I have to tell you, a blog going down is one of the most annoying things that can happen to a blogger. You are completely at the mercy of your host. So if you went searching for a dinner recipe and couldn’t load the blog, I’m sorry.

Secondly, this smoothie!

My kids have been sick for the last week and a half or so. None of them have been eating much since their throats are bothering them so I started making smoothies for them. This Almond Avo-Nana Smoothie is one of my favorite smoothies and I know it sounds very strange but it is absolutely delicious. You can’t even taste the avocado! And instead of a nut butter, you add almond meal so you still get the good fats and protein but without added sugar that peanut butter or almond butter typically has.

My 4 year old is currently obsessed with the smoothie and asks for it at least once a day.
