I am having the best summer.

Can it be summer always?

I’m sure I’ll change my mind about that as soon as I have to take all the kids to the grocery store with me but right now?

YAY SUMMER!

This summer is the first summer that my kids are all in the same friend group. You know what I mean? They’re all at ages where they’re into the same things and they play the same games. My 3 boys and all their friends travel as a pack from house to house, wreaking havoc and eating all the food. And it’s really fun to watch.

Except for the fact that ALL THEIR FRIENDS ARE MOVING SOON.

This Army life is rough for kids, man. It seems like whenever my kids get close to someone, they move!

My oldest’s 2 best best best friends are both moving across the country this summer and he’s devastated. So I decided it was time to get him a phone so he can keep in touch with them.

We left on a roadtrip to New Orleans the day after I got him the phone and all that really came in handy on the 8 hour drive. Pizza Party!

So to celebrate the last day of school, not only did my kid get his first phone (#bestmomever) but I also invited all his friends over for pizza and a movie!

I know what you’re thinking.

All that food?

That’s a lot of food.

You ever invited 7 nine year olds to your house?

This pizza-themed spread didn’t stand a chance.

I made my kids’ favorite chicken ranch pizza, super easy pizza bread with marinara, cheesy breadsticks, and ranch Goldfish mix to snack on.

And we finished the night with our VUDU movie of the month and this Chocolate Chip Pizookie!

Is there a better way to end the night?!

This pizookie is the easiest dessert you’ll ever make! It starts with my favorite chocolate chip cookie dough recipe and you just press it all into a cast iron skillet. From there, you bake it for about 20 minutes and then you just serve it in the skillet, with some vanilla ice cream on top and let everyone dig in!

It lasted about 2 minutes in my house full of boys!

Chocolate Chip Pizookie

Ingredients

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 large eggs
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
vanilla ice cream, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400F.
  2. Whisk together flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl.
  3. Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in chocolate chips.
  4. Spread batter into a 8-inch cast iron skillet. Bake 20 - 25 minutes or until golden brown and mostly done. Check after 15 minutes and cover if it looks like it's turning too dark, too quick.
  5. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream on top.
