This McDonald’s copycat recipe for the Shamrock Shake is perfect for St. Patrick’s Day or any day you need a sweet, minty treat!
I worked at McDonald’s for a couple years during high school and college and Shamrock Shake season was always a fun one. I would have to walk through the door at 4:45 am and right after I turned off the alarm, I’d turn the shake machine on. If I got wrapped up in other stuff and forgot to do it, I’d have angry customers on my hands the minute we opened the doors. It was crazy!
It’s hard to believe but I never tried one during that time. The whole mint thing just didn’t appeal to me.
We went for Happy Meals last week and I saw the Shamrock Shake sign and ordered one without even thinking about it. I can’t believe I went so long without trying it! It was so good!
I wanted to recreate it at home for the kids and it turned out perfectly. It’s pretty dangerous that I can now make them whenever I want with ingredients that I always have on hand!
- Combine ice cream, 1 cup milk, mint extract and a few drops of green food coloring in a blender and blend until combined. Add remaining 1/4 cup of milk if the shake is too thick. Use more green food coloring to get desired color.
- Top with whipped cream and green sprinkles before serving.
