Why You’re Going To Love This Recipe
- Summertime calls for milkshakes! It’s the perfect sweet treat for those hot summer days.
- Homemade milkshakes take just minutes to make! It’s as easy as throwing ingredients in a blender and blending it all up.
- These are so delicious, especially if you are a cake batter person like me!
Ingredients
- Vanilla ice cream – use your favorite vanilla ice cream. If you want to make it non-dairy, use a non-dairy vanilla ice cream.
- Milk – you can use any milk you like, including non-dairy like oat milk or almond milk.
- Yellow cake mix – yellow is traditional for cake batter flavor but you can also use white cake mix.
- Vanilla – more vanilla is always better!
- Sprinkles – I like to use rainbow sprinkles but you can use any sprinkle mix that you want. Some will be mixed into the shake and even more will go on top!
- Whipped cream – optional but whipped cream makes all milkshakes better!
- Maraschino cherries – optional but they look so good on top of milkshakes!
How To Make Cake Batter Milkshakes
- Make shake. Blend ice cream, milk, cake mix and vanilla extract in a blender on medium speed until smooth.
- Add sprinkles. Add the sprinkles to your blender and pulse for a few seconds to mix.
- Pour and garnish. Pour the blended milkshake into your glasses and top with whipped cream, extra sprinkles and a maraschino cherry for serving. Enjoy!
Milkshakes are best served as soon as they are made but this will stay fine to eat for up to 3 days. Make sure you store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Keep in mind it will be basically a liquid after refrigeration. You can try blending it with ice if you want to achieve a shake-like consistency again.
If you want a non-dairy milkshake, use non-dairy vanilla ice cream (which is widely available in pretty much any store now) and a non-dairy milk like oat milk or almond milk.
You can also find coconut whipped cream in the refrigerated whipped cream section and the Cool Whip area in the frozen section. Or you can skip the whipped cream completely.
