Christmas Muddy Buddies is just like the classic muddy buddies all dressed up in holiday cheer! Crunchy Chex cereal coated in a peanut butter chocolate mixture and tossed in powdered sugar. Holiday M&Ms and sprinkles make this mix so fun and festive!
Do you call these muddy buddies or puppy chow? I asked my boyfriend as I was working on this post and he said puppy chow but I’ve always known them as muddy buddies. And then he threw out that some people call them reindeer chow!
I had no idea.
No matter what you call them, they are so delicious and you can turn them into a fun holiday treat with just a couple additions.
It’s Chex cereal coated in chocolate and peanut butter and tossed in powdered sugar! And the melting of the chocolate is done in the microwave so it’s quick and easy. And something the kiddos can help with!
I added Christmas M&Ms and sprinkles to make them more festive but you can add whatever holiday candies you like.
Ingredients
- Chex cereal – you can use either Rice or Corn Chex, whichever you prefer. You can even use Chocolate Chex if you love chocolate!
- Semisweet chocolate chips – these are getting melted and turned into the delicious chocolate coating.
- Creamy peanut butter – this gets melted with the chocolate to create the peanut butter chocolate coating.
- Butter – butter makes everything better, including muddy buddies! I used unsalted but salted or unsalted will work.
- Powdered sugar – once the Chex is coated in the chocolate mixture, they get tossed in powdered sugar.
- Christmas M&Ms – there are so many different varieties of festive M&Ms nowadays so pick your favorite. I just used the classic M&Ms.
- Sprinkles – use whatever kind and shape of sprinkles you like. I prefer jimmies in recipes like this.
