Crockpot Candy is a must make for the holiday season! It’s like chocolate covered peanuts but better! Only 4 ingredients and made completely in the slow cooker. It makes a ton so it is perfect for cookie tins or holiday parties!
These are a must make for me for my holiday cookie tins! Some of my other must makes for the holidays are Cranberry Orange Cookies, White Chocolate Peanut Butter Ritz Crackers, and Italian Sugar Cookies.

This is my ultimate, most favorite recipe ever.
If I had to pick a signature recipe, this would be it.
And it’s not even mine.
My best friend Megan and her mom gave me this recipe years and years ago.
They make it every Christmas and every Christmas I would beg her to bring me some. I honestly had no idea it was so easy until she showed up at my house with all the ingredients on year and threw it all in the slow cooker.
Now I make at least 2 batches every holiday season to fill Christmas cookie tins and send as teacher gifts. It is so delicious, practically addictive, everyone loves it, and everyone you gift it to will be asking for the recipe!
Ingredients For Crockpot Candy
- White Almond Bark – this is a white melting chocolate that’s typically used for making almond bark. You can find it in the baking aisle of all large grocery stores, with the chocolate chips.
- German Chocolate Bar – this is a sweet baking chocolate that you can find in the baking aisle with the chocolate chips.
- Semisweet Chocolate Chips
- Dry Roasted Peanuts – I use salted because I like the sweet and salty flavor. If you don’t even sweet and salty, use unsalted peanuts.
How To Make Crockpot Candy
- Combine. Add white almond bark, German chocolate bar, semisweet chocolate chips, and peanuts to slow cooker
- Cook. Let cook on low for 1 hour without messing with it
- Stir. After an hour, stir to combine everything
- Cook. Allow to cook for another hour, stirring every 15 minutes
- Finish. Drop spoonfuls of the candy onto wax paper and allow to cool completely
What Size Crockpot Do I Need for Crockpot Candy?
I use a 6 quart slow cooker for this recipe. I don’t recommend using anything much smaller than that but an 8 quart will work fine.
How Long Is It Good For?
Crockpot Candy is good for several weeks in the fridge. Make sure to store Crockpot Candy in an airtight container to keep it good for as long as possible.
I like mine room temperature so I recommend letting it sit on the counter for 10 – 15 minutes before serving. You can also serve it right from the fridge if you prefer!

What Is Almond Bark?
Okay, so it’s technically it’s not even called almond bark! It’s a candy coating (either vanilla or chocolate) but the packages usually have “Make Your Own ALMOND BARK!” on the front so everyone just calls it almond bark.
There are no almonds or nuts of any kind. It is a chocolaty candy coating that melts really easily and produces a glossy, beautiful candy.
It also sets up really quickly so you don’t have candy sitting on your counter for hours and hours.
Almond bark available in most of the grocery stores near me (plus Walmart and Super Target) year round in the baking aisle right near the chocolate chips. During the holiday season, most stores will have huge baking displays where you can find almond bark as well. Or you can always order almond bark online.
If, for some reason, you can’t find it, the candy melts you find in the craft store work similarly.

Help! My Crockpot Candy Isn’t Setting Up!
I have never had this problem but I have had readers say their Crockpot Candy takes forever to set up.
The amount of almond bark used in the recipe should make it set up pretty quickly, especially if your house isn’t super hot, but if you are having problems, transfer them to your refrigerator for a few minutes and they should set up very fast.

Can You Freeze Crockpot Candy?
Yes! If you are looking to get a jump start on your holiday baking, you can freeze it in an airtight freezer ziploc bag, making sure to remove as much of the air as possible.
Just let it thaw in the refrigerator or on the counter before serving.
Variations
- I really like to make crockpot candy with pecans or cashews! It is a lot more expensive to make it that way but it’s also more addictive!
- Change up the sprinkle colors based on the time of year or holidays! Halloween, Easter, Valentine’s Day!

What is Almond bark?
amanda says
It’s a candy coating. You should be able to find it with the chocolate chips in the baking aisle of your grocery store. :)
linda says
I found it at Walmart for half the price of grocery stores!
AMANDA MARIE PITTS says
What if you don’t like almond bark?
Lavonne says
I dont like Almond Bark either. Just use the chocolate melts. You can find these at stores like Hobby Lobby, or Peases Candy. Then you wont need the chocolate chips.
S says
Amanda, you could probably use all semi-sweet, milk, or dark chocolate chips and/or white baking chips. Add a couple tablespoons of shortening to help make the chocolate so it doesn’t melt quite so quickly in your hand.
regina says
On the German Chocolate is that sweet, or semi sweet or does it matter?
amanda says
It’s slightly sweeter than semisweet. This is the one I use: http://www.kraftrecipes.com/products/bakers-german-chocolate-baking–88.aspx
Lola Austin says
Is it best to use salted peanuts
S says
Lola, you could use unsalted peanuts. It’s a matter of personal taste/health concerns.
Nic says
I would suggest using salted peanuts for the sweet but salty taste. If you don’t, I think they would be bland.
Diane says
I use 1 package of chocolate almond bark and 1 package of white almond bark and 3 (16 oz) Jars of lightly salted peanuts. The More Nuts The Better. Also More Healthy. You need Just Enough Chocolate To Hold It Together. Experiment To Your Taste. Warning They Are Very Addictive!!!
Kelly says
2 pound white almond bark do u have to use it?can u use something else in place of it? does it make it taste like almond
Kat says
It does not have an almond flavor. You might try Wilton Candy melts found at Michaels, Hobby Lobby, etc.
pam says
used welton candy melts came out great do suggest using salted peanuts it helps with the sweetness but both ways are good never any left
DLong says
It’s called almond bark, but it’s just white chocolate (people put almonds in it to make a candy called ‘almond bark’)
sjackson says
Actually, it is not white chocolate. It is white morsels and not chocolate at all. In order for something to be called white chocolate it must contain at least 20% cocoa butter, 14% milk solids and 3.5% milkfat and no more than 55% sugar or other sweeteners. Almond Bark does not contain cocoa butter. It is a confectionery coating that consists of vegetable fats flavors and colors. That is why it doesn’t taste like chocolate.
Nicole says
what type of German chocolate would be best to use?
amanda says
This is the most common one, I believe: http://www.kraftrecipes.com/products/bakers-german-chocolate-baking–88.aspx
Shelley says
What is a German chocolate bar?
amanda says
It’s just a chocolate bar used for baking. It’s a little bit sweeter than semisweet chocolate. It should be with the rest of the chocolate in the baking aisle of your store. :)
Paula says
Did you use butter in it
amanda says
Nope, no butter. :)
Janet B. says
Amazing! Exactly the kind of candy I like…chocolate and nuts. Yum. People will be so impressed when I give it as a gift. Thank you for sharing(can you tell I work at a school…hahaha).
ceci says
this is an awesome recipe! I’ve just used whatever chocolate, white and dark, was in the house and added any nuts, etc. It came out fine and cleaned out odds and ends from my pantry. I don’t think you can go wrong unless it is cooked at too high a temp.
Baker Bob says
I know this is a year old posting, but I just found it. I have it cooking as I type, can’t wait to see and taste them in a few hours. This was one of the easiest recipes for treats I’ve ever assembled, it took just 5 minutes to prep, as I chopped the Almond Bark into smaller pieces, thinking it’ll melt easier. I’m thinking you can change the “flavors” of chocolate to suit your taste, just so long as you swap ounce for ounce in weight, there shouldn’t be a problem. I think changing the type of nut, or even using pretzels is great, just use the same weights again, and you’ll be fine.
As far as freezing the mixture to use later, as some have asked. Why would you do that? You’d still have to melt it, so just start fresh when you’re ready to go. If you want to make a smaller batch, just cut your ingredients all by the same percentage, and it’ll work just fine.
I see no need to use a crock pot diaper, as hot water will melt the chocolate right out of the crock, it’ll take maybe 2 minutes, I see no real time saved, besides, just use a scraper and your tongue, and give yourself a little treat. Life’s too short to seat the small stuff.
Merry Christmas to all, and thanks for the great recipe!
Kristy says
I make peanut clusters (that’s what I call them) every Christmas, too. Sometimes I make them other times of the year if the hubby asks for them. However, my recipe is different & faster so I thought I’d share it.
Ingredients:
16 oz jar of peanuts
1 bag semisweet chocolate chips
2 bags white chocolate chips
Directions:
Place all 3 bags of chocolate chips in a glass bowl. Microwave for 3 minutes (or until completely melted), pausing every minute to stir. Once melted, pour all the peanuts in bowl & mix until all of them are coated. Dip out using a spoon & place on wax paper. Let cool & set up. Eat & enjoy!
I’ve used other types of nuts & items as well. One of my favorite altered recipe is using pecans & then drizzling melted caramel across the tops of the clusters. Yum-O!
Anita Fairchild says
Sorry, it posted my husbands name instead of mine. lol
Robert Fairchild says
I don’t understand what happened but mine never did set up. I went back and looked at the recipe and I used the right amount of everything. Put it all back in a pan and back on the stove this time and added some paraffin wax to it. My mother in law used to use it in her chocolate when she was dipping candy in it. I hope that this salvages it because it was quite costly using all of the peanuts, almond bard, chocolate chips and german chocolate in it.
Carol G. says
Could I use cocktail peanuts with sea salt? Just wondering why dry roasted.
Phyl says
We looked all over town for German Chocolate nobody has it. What can be substituted? I know when I was young eons ago my Mother used it but its not around here anymore. None of the baking isles had it & the young manager of stores said never heard of it.
Katrina says
That’s what I was thinking. Thank you!!!
Katrina says
Does it make a lot? I need 3 dozen treats for a cookie exchange.
amanda says
Yeah, you’ll definitely get at least 3 dozen! :)
Adele says
I don’t have a crockpot. How can I make this candy in something else?
Sue says
You could make these using a double boiler to melt your chocolate. The crock pot makes it easy, but really, you are just using it to melt the chocolate so all the ingredients will blend together. A double boiler will accomplish the same thing. Just watch the chocolate carefully and do not over heat or it will seize up on you and ruin your candy.
Arman @ thebigmansworld says
Amanda, this is actually genius and I am christening the new crock pot with it this weekend. I’ll pretend it’s a sweet stew.
Billie Scarborough says
Judy, you are a wicked, wicked temptress! Oh prayers to the Divine Universe “protect this beautiful mind”!!! 《LOL》 As soon as my grocery store opens I will fill my hands with Pay Day Bars, almond bark, etc al!
Judy says
I’ve made these for many–many year’s. I would like to suggest some of the things I have done – – – first I just make the Chocolate w/no Nut’s – – – THEN – – – I leave the crockpot on as LOW as possible – – – THEN – decide what I want to cover in chocolate:
– – – THEN – – I get EVERTHING ready in SEPARATE BOWL’S-
** Caramel’s – I use Kraft Caramel’s – I unwrap each and put into a bowl – Put them on the end of a toothpick or on the end of a LARGE 4 prong roasting fork – and just dip them and place on wax paper- STIR CHOCOLATE
** Jelled Candy Slices – Orange, Cherry, Lemon or Lime candy Slices – even Jelled MINT LEAVES – Dip as above & place on wax paper – STIR CHOCOLATE
** Pretzel Rod’s – Just dip in as far as you want – Put on wax paper – STIR CHOCOLATE
** CHRISTMAS CANDY CANE’S – DIP the same as Pretzel Rod’s – When dry I tie a Ribbon on each – (I use Peppermint & Spearmint Candy Canes) – Peppermint are Red and White Striped -I use a Green Ribbon and Spearmint are Green and White Striped – I use a Red Ribbon……. Look’s like Christmas ……. STIR CHOCOLATE
** Large Marshmallow’s – I crush some Pretzel’s in a plastic bag – THEN – Put them in a bowl – also, I finely crush favorite nut’s (Almond’s -or- Cashew’s – even Sprinkles -or- Mini M&M’s – etc. – – Just be sure to put each in a separate bowl – – I then dip marshmallow in Chocolate w/toothpick – then – DIP Top’s -or- Roll the sides into Nut’s -or- Sprinkles -or- Mini M&M’s – then – Put them on wax paper – STIR CHOCOLATE
** COOKIES – I use a straight edge knife – Chocolate Frost the Top’s – then – Immediately Sprinkle on any leftover Sprinkle’s -or- Nut’s -or- M&M’s that are left over from Marshmallow’s – STIR CHOCOLATE
** MOUND’S -or- ALMOND JOY’S – Pre-make your Favorite Coconut Filling – Shape into Ball’s – Put on toothpick – Shape by squeezing Coconut Filling – w/thumb & finger’s until it’s oval -or- at least has a Flat Side – DIP in Chocolate – Put on wax paper – For Almond Joy’s – IMMEDIATELY put an Almond on Top -then- w/ a Spoon – Cover the Almond w/Chocolate – STIR CHOCOLATE
** MY FAVORITE – – – I buy “PAYDAY CANDY BAR’S” Cut them in bite size piece’s -then-
Roll them into ball’s – DIP into Chocolate w/toothpick’s
Put on wax paper – STIR CHOCOLATE
** GRANDKID’S FAVORITE – – – I Dip TOOSIE ROLL POP’S into Chocolate – Put the stick end into a piece of Styrofoam until dry – Wrap Sucker end in Saran Wrap w/ a Ribbon tied on it so it look’s nice – At Christmas – I put the Saran Wrap on -then- I wrap Christmas Paper on over the Saran Wrap then a ribbon – They each get a bouquet of each flavor of the Tootsie Roll Pop’s – STIR CHOCOLATE
** NUT’S – Then with any Chocolate that is left – – I stir in some Peanut’s – – Put spoonful’s on Wax paper (Using only about 1/2 the Chocolate) STIR CHOCOLATE
** NUT’S & RAISIN’S – I add Raisin’s to the other 1/2 of Chocolate Peanut’s to make Chunky Candy (My brother’s Favorite) – Using Mini Candy Liner’s – I make up boxes of Assorted Chocolate’s for my neighbor’s and take some to each home for the Holiday’s
** I also melt some – ALMOND BARK – and I crush up OREO’S – Cookies only – I REMOVE the Cream between the Cookies w/ a kitchen knife first -then- Crush Cookies – Stir into MELTED CHOCOLATE – JUST BEFORE Pouring into Holiday Mold’s.
I put some in the Candy boxes too.
